Avatars in blog posts

Hi there,

Ok I am trying to run a news site from WordPress and want to make it so that I can have a list of selectable avatars that will appear next to a blog post. So say one of my reporters writes a politics story, they could then select the corrosponding avatar from the list,and this would appear next to the story summary on the homepage. Does that make sense? If anyone has any idea how to achieve this, please let me know asap.
