Auto Update to 4.5 not working

The auto-update to WordPress 4.5 isn’t working on my self hosted site.

If I go to Dashboard > Updates and click on the Update Now button it refreshes the screen to show a blank grey background with no updating progress happening.

I tried this on two computers, IE and Chrome and even via the browser on my Android phone. I’ve emptied the browser cache and emptied the CloudFlare cache but it didn’t work.

I have updated a plug-in today successfully and auto updated previous WordPress versions successfully.

Any ideas?

Same here. Could not update on two WP sites. It just freezes when you click Update Now button, showing a white screen in the working area on the right. Also tried it in different browsers but no luck.

Yes that’s exactly the same as me. Normally you would get progress messages telling you it’s unpacking and updating or whatever. But it just loads an empty grey working area screen with the normal black menu bar at the top and left, and it just does nothing.

Any ideas?

@sharkyblunt: maybe we are the lucky ones here that WP isn’t updating. I was searching the forums for solutions and stumbled upon lots of people complaining 4.5 broke their entire site, or broke certain essential functions/plugins. Many had to revert back to 4.4.2.

Maybe better to wait until they fix all of this in a new version. It’s not a security update anyway, so not essential to upgrade.

@sharkyblunt: I managed to resolve it by deactivating W3 Total Cache. This allowed me to update via the dashboard to 4.5.1.
