Author migration

Hi

Hoping someone can confirm how authors work when migrating posts from an existing site to a brand new site with no existing authors (users).

I’m importing content from an existing site to a new site with no users except an admin account and want to ensure that the original authors are kept in place for existing posts. Do I need to setup the authors on the new site first or does the importer take care of this (and map the posts to the correct authors) too?
