Attach logo to navigation bar

I’m using the Academica theme. I created a child theme and I need to make my menu look like http://nd.edu. I’m creating my site locally so I don’t have a link to post. Any suggestions on how to go about this? I’m sure I need to tweak the CSS file to get two separate items to sit side by side and then possibly one more to rest beneath. I’m at a loss. If I need to, I can post my CSS file later. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
