I’m not positive how to word this or describe it, but I’ll do my best. First of all, my child theme is set up to have the Flexslider navigation controls overlaid near the bottom of the Featured Image on the slider on the home page. This looks and works great on a desktop, but I just realized that if you decrease the window size or view the site on a tablet, the controls move off of the slider and over the top of the Title or Excerpt. This just looks sloppy. I’m guessing the controls were placed over the top for a reason, but I have seen many sliders with the controls overlaid on top of the slider images.

Any suggestions how I can configure the slider navigation to work with all screen sizes? Thanks!

  • Well, this is pretty odd. In my testing, even on the demo site, it appears that resizing the browser window causes the flexslider container to resize responsively, but it doesn’t always get the correct height. Sometimes it leaves a white space below the post excerpt; other times it cuts off the excerpt. Refreshing the page sets it correctly. So, if the slider controls are positioned anywhere other than absolutely at the top, they will move along with the flexslider container height, even if it’s incorrect. So I think that’s what you’re seeing. I’m not sure what would cause that.

Yeah, I’m stumped by this one. It seems like they should stay with the slider, but I wasn’t able to achieve that. If the controls were left in the standard area, it was fine. But if I used the custom location and sizes that you helped me with, they would overlay onto the Title and Excerpt area.

All that said, I think I found a compromise. I moved the controls back to the top, but now have the arrows aligned to the top right edge within the slider. I also increased the size of the slider progress bars and placed them directly above the slider on the left side. So far during testing, the controls seem to stay put when resizing my screen.

If I run into any more issues, I’ll be sure to check back in here. Also, I think I’m finally beginning to understand some of this coding stuff. It’s very fun and rewarding watching my site take shape.
