Where did you download this theme from?
I tried many
timeline-wp
codium-grid
flexiblity3
indeziner
hybrid
skeleton
so maybe my first question should have been is there a recommended location for templates?
I appreciate your help.
thank you for your response
my lesson here is I cannot assume that themes that look like they are from a reputable source are actually downloadable.
am I correct?
I am reading through the material you recommended
as a test, I downloaded two themes from the location you indicated and both installed flawlessly. I’ll work my way through those to find the type of template that I think I’m looking for.
Finding the right template is harder than picking out the entire wardrobe for a wedding party!
thanks

Since we only support themes from this site, I really don’t know about themes from other places, but in general, yes, you should be careful about where you get themes from. This article has some more info along these lines:

It’s also possible that the themes you’ve tried are okay, but perhaps contained in more than one folder – but in any case, the developer/vendor should provide any installation info if it’s not standard.

LOL – well, I’ve not heard that one before!
But don’t sweat the details too much – because you really can modify themes pretty easily once you learn a few basics of WP/HTML and CSS.
thank you very much for your assistance and resources to learn
It means the zip file should be unzipped. After doing that you can see another zip file into the folder. That is the main theme file. And now install this file from your WP dashboard.
