Assign Group at Registration

Is it possible to let a user choose a group at registration and based on this, automatically assign her/him to a particular group? Possibly with another extension? Thanks in advance for your input on how this can be achieved.

Hi,
Although the solution below doesn’t apply on registration, you can add a page with the following shortcodes and let the user choose which group to join. You can see the details on this shortcode here.
[groups_join group=”X”] If the user clicks on this button will join group X.
[groups_join group=”Y”] If the user clicks on this button will join group Y.
