Arrow Hovers Over Menu

I would like to create a menu (Navigation Bar) that has an wide arrow pointing down to the menu item (as oppose to a thin line that appears over the menu item when you hover (as it is today. The best case of this is on Dan Browns website (author). Can someone help me get this effect. Thanks
