Are my exclude settings correct?

    Hey,
    are these exclude settings correct:

    backup*,*backups,backwpup*,wp-clone,snapshots

    upgrade,cache,updraft,backup*,*backups,mysql.sql,debug.log

    ?

    I think those were the default values, I just want to make sure that everything important is saved.

    Hi,

    Well, whether they’re correct, depends upon what you want to exclude. Those are the default values, and are designed to exclude backing up backups created by other backup plugins, and avoid backing up cache data, plus a not-useful file on a particular large hosting company that is unreadable.

    Ok, thanks. Can you confirm that those are the default settings? Because the only result I found online was slightly different.

    Should I look deeper into this topic to make sure that in the worst case scenario my site is recoverable? Or are the default settings sufficient if I don’t want to skip anything particular?

    How can I make sure that my site can be fully recovered in case it goes down? Besides actually loading it up somewhere else?

    Hi,

    Apologies for the late reply.

    UpdraftPlus default settings is already set to backup essentially everything on your site – all the components such as your database, uploads, plugins, themes, and additional files created by plugins.

    Make sure though to test your backup system after deploying it.

    Thank you for your answer.
    Can you tell me how I test a backup system? Do you mean actually restoring the website somewhere? Or do you just mean looking if the files are uploaded to (in my case) Google Drive?

    Hi,

    Apologies for the delay.

    We would recommend taking a manual backup (via the Backup Now button) after setting up your backup settings, and ensuring that the backup completes and the backup files have been sent to remote storage.
    UpdraftPlus will also output any errors to the backup log.

    You can also download some of the backup files and attempt to unzip them on your local machine. If they unzip without any issues, then the backups should be sound.

    Well, the files are on my GDrive and I can download and open the zips.
    Is there anything else I can do to check if everything is correct or do I just have to trust it?

    The thing is, the page is not just a hobby project. It’s growing fast and I need to be sure that it won’t break one day.

    Any idea? Anything I could do to test the backup in a convenient and quick way?

    Also, can anyone confirm that those exclude settings are the actual default ones?
    I want to make sure that I did not accidentally change anything.

    Can someone just take a quick glance at his default settings and compare it?

    I might seem paranoid but I just want to avoid that anything goes wrong.

    Those exclusion settings appear to be the default.
