Archives rank far better than single posts
-
Something that has been bugging me since I started working more with SEO is that archives rank way higher on Google than single posts do.
I don’t really want archives to be the thing people go to when my blog shows up on Google. I want them to end up directly in the relevant post.I would love it if someone could shed some light on this, if it is something that I am doing wrong or if it is something that is technically wrong.
The address is http://www.hampusmalmstrom.se (blog posts are in Swedish but not really relevant to the issue)
As an example I searched in an incognito window “Mason Jar Hampus Malmström” and my though was that my one post about this would show up first. But in fact, the home page was the nr. 1 hit. After that, 3 tag archives show up (all of them were tags that were added to the post) the description in google is from the text of the post contained in those archives, and as nr. 4 my LinkedIn profile shows up. So in this scenario, the post isn’t even shown at all.
If I search the exact post title, the post shows up.
