Apple Education Blog

Is it possible to extract the theme from apple’s student blog. I love the design and would like to use it for my blog.

No, that theme is the property of Apple Computer, Inc. and it is secured under a 2005 copyright with all rights reserved. There are, however, over 300 other themes for you to choose from. I’m sure that you’ll be able to find something similar.
It’s perfectly possible to extract it though π
And I do seem to recall that discussion again about themes / hooks into the core etc etc etc.
Having said that, I think that blog design is … not very good π
And it’s a shame how Apple take a perfectly valid piece of code and break it. (Did I say RSS ? noooooo)π
Some reading: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/38024
interesting read. If it’s copyrighted I wouldn’t want to use it. I like the simplicity of the theme, but perhaps I’ll spend time and design my own. And how exactly did Apple take a “perfectly valid piece of code and break it” Are you talking about how they previously didn’t display the “Powered by WordPress” or something else?
WP out of the box, validates as xhtml.
They have downgraded to html and still can’t get it right. And the RSS ? An accepted standard which Apple decided did not fit their iTunes code, so they broke RSS too.

Ummm … the RSS feed for that blog is perfectly valid. If you’re refering to the new tags that Apple has added to RSS feeds for podcast syndication through iTunes, it’s perfectly right for them to do. All they did was suggest a new tag for RSS, and Apple is certainly not the first to do so. Various companies and individuals do that all the time. And, in less than a year, that tag will officially become part of the RSS specification.
I agree ^^ RSS is alive. It must change as other things do no?
“And, in less than a year, that tag will officially become part of the RSS specification.”
Not quite.
Therefore, the RSS spec is, for all practical purposes, frozen at version 2.0.1. We anticipate possible 2.0.2 or 2.0.3 versions, etc. only for the purpose of clarifying the specification, not for adding new features to the format. Subsequent work should happen in modules, using namespaces, and in completely new syndication formats, with new names.
http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/tech/rss#roadmapI see. And, how is this Apple’s problem? So, they missed the boat. I don’t see how this is something that is so critical. Of course, you do have a history of lashing out at Apple users, so I can expect that from you.
Back to the OP’s question: the only possible way to use that specific “theme” is to get permission from Apple – I don’t know if that would be possible or not. I’m neither an Apple user nor lover…. but if I wanted to use that specific thing, I’d simply email and ask – the worst that can happen is they’d say NO.
Otherwise, why not adapt the elements you like, making your own theme around them? It’s a really “vanilla” look, you could make kubrick’s header similar in feel to that one, and use one of the “minimalist white” themes out there for most of the rest of it. Go to the “Extend” tab at the top of this page, and click on the theme resource links listed….
