• Hello,
I am trying to set up a Youtube account to post videos to a WordPress blog hosted independently.

I need to enter the API key in Youtube to get it to work. I didn’t have an API key, so I signed up for one. But how do I link this API key to the blog that is already set up?

    From the documentation:

“You must have registered here at wordpress.com to get an API key. Just having a wordpress blog somewhere else does not get you a key.”

Thanks very much for your help

That YouTube setup stuff is incorrect, you do NOT need any sort of API key for a self-hosted WordPress. Just fill it in with garbage or whatever, it doesn’t matter.

Note that if you chose WordPress.com instead, the API key *does* matter then, you need that key to post on WordPress.com, but for your own blog, the api url (http://example.com/xmlrpc.php) and username/password is enough.

Note that YouTube basically makes a post on your blog with some text that looks like this: [youtube=URL]. On WordPress.com, that automatically gets changed to the embedded video. On your own, it doesn’t. You need a plugin on WordPress to make that happen.

I think this plugin will do the trick: http://www.robertbuzink.nl/journal/2006/11/23/youtube-brackets-wordpress-plugin/

    Thanks, that worked great!
