  • Subscribe2 will let you send an email to your subscribers. I just wish it would let you turn off the scheduled emails. I guess you could set it not to include pages, and exclude all of your categories, but that seems like the long way around.

PHPList is a good email list manager, and there is a plugin for WordPress so that when people register for your blog they can be automatically subscribed to PHPList at the same time.

    Thanks John,

    I’ll check out PHPList now.

    Finally!

Well, yeah but it’s different. Subscribe2 emails your blog posts and/or pages on a scheduled basis. PHPList sends an email that you compose whenever you want it to. It doesn’t have to be something that’s posted on your blog. Subscribe2 also doesn’t have the tracking info that PHPList has (like how many people opened the message, how many people clicked a given link in the message, etc.).

Would be good if PHPList had double opt-in – which is what many isps are insisting on when it comes to emailing the subscribers.
I have tried out every newsletter plugin on WP and none really work well.
I need double opt-in and the ability to send newsletter emails from my list with a 10+ second delay between each email so I don’t upset my web host.

    Re Subscribe2:

Wouldn’t that mean everyone gets sent a blank email?

    new release: MailPress 4.0.1
    new documentation : http://www.mailpress.org
    a forum : http://groups.google.com/group/mailpress

I’ve tried both Post Notification (perfect but is no longer working for me after hours of trying to fix) and Subscribe2 (too limited). MailPress also doesn’t seem to support a couple key needs of mine such as delayed bursts of messages to avoid tripping my host’s SPAM restrictions.

Does anyone know of an email subscriber list plugin that satisfies the following minimal requirements:

    • Works in WP 2.8.6, PHP 5.x
    • Delayed bursts of emails (number of messages / seconds between)
    • Does not require users to have WP account in the blog to subscribe (sometimes called public subscriber list)
    • Sends full text messages of each new post
    • HTML or plain text messages
    • Allows users to subscribe or unsubscribe themselves from a form on the blog
    • Imports/exports CSV file for list management
    • OPTIONAL (but very nice): Supports subscribers to opt in to categories when signing up
    • OPTIONAL (but also highly useful): Sidebar widget for signing up (or supports php code to add into sidebar.php file)

    Hi sassymonkey,

Did you find any such plugin for the newsletter 🙁 ?

I’ve used this for having people subscribe to my site and for just dumping in email lists. It has a neat delayed feature that allows the emails to go out slowly. I didn’t get he pro version, some cost with that. Also, I had more success not getting stopped by server spam catchers.

    Hello Shawn,

I am trying Newsletter too but I cannot find a way to see the names & emails of the subscribers? Is there a way to see that list?

Oh I just found how. Then I am happy with this plugin. I find it easy to use and efficient.

    hi sassymonkey,

I’ve been working with MailPress for a while now and it works very well. And it satisfies all the requirements you have mentioned above as far as i can see. Not sure about the export of csv files though.
