Hi team,
When I’m trying to index my web stories, I get the following errors:
– The mandatory tag ‘html !doctype’ is missing or incorrect
– The parent tag of tag ‘html’ is ‘$root’, but it can only be ‘!doctype’Could you please assist?
Thanks,

Thanks for reaching out!
It looks like there might be some server misconfiguration or outdated PHP library installed.
Would you mind sharing your Site Health debug information privately with us via this form?
This way we can better assist you.
Hi Marjolein @radicalfire8,
Thanks for sharing your Site Health info. It looks your PHP library is pretty up-to-date, so this may actually be caused by a conflict between Web Stories and your theme or plugins – something is stripping the
<!DOCTYPE html>code from your stories.Unfortunately this can be a bit tricky to troubleshoot because it requires turning off you theme and plugins one at a time to see which one could be stripping that code. I’m going to do some testing on my end to try to replicate your site setup, but in the meantime, can you try deactivating your plugins one by one to see if one of them is causing this issue?
Thank you!
Thanks for your reply. When I’m going to Google Search Console, inserting the URL, I’ll get a notification that the URL is indexed with errors and won’t be shown (https://screenrec.com/share/jb8UCQrV5v). However, when I click on live test, I get the notification that AMP is okay and it can be indexed (https://screenrec.com/share/yRd70wzAGt).
When I’m deactivating plugins and testing the live URL, I don’t get any output that helps me. When I deactivate the plugins and retest, I get the second notification, saying that all is well. However, the URL doesn’t get indexed properly.
Is there any other way I can test this? And did you find something?
Additional info: I’ve found this validator that I’ve used https://validator.ampproject.org/. I’ve disabled all plugins, switched themes, cleared cache, and after the changes the errors still appeared.
@radicalfire8 Thanks for doing all of this troubleshooting! Upon further testing on our side, it does appear that this the Ezoic plugin is stripping the required
<!DOCTYPE html>code from your stories. Please reach out to Ezoic support for assistance here. Thank you!Thank you for your reply. When I delete the Ezoic plugin, the error persists. I don’t need the plugin so I will delete it entirely. Could you please look into the issue further?
@radicalfire8 Can you please check to see if you are still seeing the errors here?

It can take some time for cache to clear. The errors are gone for me now at both of these URLs.
Thanks!
For me as well, thanks a lot for your help!
