@rochellemariah Hi there, thanks for opening your topic.
Could you please check if the “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” option is checked or not under WordPress Settings > Reading?
Hi there, this box is unchecked as we’d want search engines to find our site, yes?
@rochellemariah Thanks for checking that is correct.
Perhaps there is another plugin that has a setting where search engines are blocked. Looks like you are using Yoast so you could test if a setting has been enabled in that plugin preventing your site from being indexed. You could try disabling the plugin for a few minutes and retesting your story URL at https://search.google.com/test/amp.
Thanks for the follow up.
Everything in YOAST is turned on and is being found in search. Sitemaps are in place and everything else seems to be being found fine.
Not sure if it’s somehow a localized issue?
As our other webstory here: https://www.polkadotsandpixiedust.com/web-stories/hogwarts-express-in-the-wizarding-world-of-harry-potter/
is indexed, found in AMP etc. ….
any other plugins that would affect these two stories?
Would duplicating the stories, re-titling them, and republishing them help?
@rochellemariah To confirm, did you disable the plugin and retest to see if your story URL was available?
any other plugins that would affect these two stories
You could go through and disable your plugins one by one to identify which could be causing the issue.
Yes, we did deactivate Yoast without any success. So have reactivated it again. Neither story is showing up on google search console. ( Only the one web story shared earlier is showing up for amp/ console and indexed). The only other plugins we have that would be an issue are SG optimizer and WP rocket, but deactivating one at a time reaped the same results of those 2 web stories still not indexed and the one webstory being fine. At this point I don’t see how it could be a plugin setting if we have one web story completely fine. Thoughts? Let us know.
@rochellemariah I noticed that this story (https://www.polkadotsandpixiedust.com/web-stories/hogwarts-express-in-the-wizarding-world-of-harry-potter/) has been listed in your XML sitemap (generated by Jetpack), see https://www.polkadotsandpixiedust.com/sitemap-1.xml for example. However, it doesn’t seem like the others are. If your Web Story URLs aren’t appearing in your XML Sitemap after publishing, you may want to contact their support forum to confirm it is generating all the XML sitemaps correctly.
Something appears to be preventing these stories urls from being indexed, and you can use this URL Inspection tool to find out more. Questions about Google Search and indexing are better answered by the Search Console Help community so I suggest you consult the product experts there for further help.
Ok. thank you. I think it’s an issue with the sitemap so thank you for checking. Ours is setup through the yoast plugin, so I have reached out to them and google search console as well. Thanks again.
Thank you for reaching out. If you need any other support do feel free to open a new support topic. 🙂
