• I was using the following link to help guide me through the installation process for WordPress. I was nearly done when I hit the paragraph towards the end that says “Now download and unpack the newest version of WordPress. Put the files in C:\nginx\html. Rename the directory if you so choose. Put all the files inside the wordpress directory in root if you want the blog to be installed on the root directory.”

After going through all of the other steps and everything going well, I now feel completely lost. I downloaded and unpacked the files and put them in C:\nginx\html. Got that part but the next part went completely over my head. What exactly is the directory? I don’t know what that is and because of that I can’t rename it. and how do I put the files inside the wordpress directory in root?

Can anyone break this down for me so I can continue with my install? I’d appreciate it so much! 🙂

  • Hi,

I presume you are instaling on a local PC. This part: “Rename the directory if you so choose. Put all the files inside the wordpress directory in root if you want the blog to be installed on the root directory.” is just an option. Skip it and move on.

Are you using a webhost or running locally?

Yes, I am trying to run locally.

If it’s just an option, then what do I put as the address in the browser for the next step to start configuring wordpress?

    Thanks for your replies!

Hi, if you followed the setup instruction that you linked to in your start post, it would be:
    http://localhost/blog/
