Allowing people to register

    OK, I just started my own blog, but is it really a security risk to allow users’ register? I heard it but I can’t see how.

    I’d appreciate some feedback.

    It could be. In 2.6.1 registrants seemed somehow able to promote themselves to admin (due to a hole) and mess with the blog.

    Of course in normal situations things should be just fine.

    Just be sure the default role doesn’t have too many rights.

    It would just be as a subscriber — but this has made me a little wary. Is there any other plugin that allows users to register and doesn’t pose a security risk?
