• Yeah – it said “be brief and descriptive” and that the best I could come up with!

Okay, I was wondering if there was some kind of plugin that would allow for these things:

    1) Allow registered users to write, post, edit and that kind of thing (I know Role Manager does this) BUT the posts that registered users put up must be moderated before being made public.

    2) For files larger than 500K, is there a plugin that will allow users to upload files to the server? The guy I’m doing this for is actually considering allowing server access through FTP – which I find *very* scary. I know you can upload images through the posts “upload” thing, but I know that there’s timeout issues with large files (and he expects some of these files to be audio and video – so we’re talking *big*) and I just don’t know if the upload feature can handle such large files. If it can, please correct me! That would make things easier – but if it can’t, is there a plugin that will allow this *and* send notification that such files were uploaded to the server (moderate them)?

    3) Is there a way to make the user profiles public?

I hope all of that made sense! Thanks!

  • 1) Give them the level of Contributor. Anyting that they do requires it to be approved my a blog admin.

    2) Not a clue. Best thing to do is contact your host actually. There are ways to limit file sizes within most ftp servers but without knowing your setup, I really can’t answer that question.

    3) Author_Templates

    Hope this helps,

Hey, for number 1, I’ve been using the following plugin. It works well.

    Thanks guys –

I actually *did* look at the “draft notification”, but it’s not *quite* what I need (plus it apparently has bugs for WP versions older than 1.5 – and I’m on 2.1)

I’ll look into these suggestions – thank you!

Oh, and Dr. Mike – it’s not so much that they want to *limit* the filesizes. They just want to set it up so that, if someone has a large file, can they process it with the uploads function already present without worrying about a timeout of some other weirdness (server settings aside – if the host allows filesizes of 100MB – will WP time out at a 4MB file sent through the uplaoder?) That’s what I need to know, I guess.

    Thanks again 🙂

It shouldn’t time out on a 4 megs file. It really depends on current load though.

    Thanks 🙂

And thanks for the link on Authors, too – but that’s not exactly what I need. I need to have it so that, when you click on an author’s name for a post, a user profile comes up. Sort of like whatever they’re using at WordPress.com – maybe even with an avatar or something (but that’s not necessary) – just something that makes their profile public.

I’m still looking though – maybe I’ll have to write my own plugin for that (God help me! LOL)

EDIT: out of curiosity – what’s being used over at the wordpress.COM site to have that “Your Profile” thing in the admin area? That would be perfect!
