Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

I just de-activated all plug-ins – there was no change.
I also switched to default theme – and the problem remained.
Any other ideas?
My friend who also has access to the blog said that she had entered some code into the about page (to add facebook platform) but then deleted it completely). Do you think this could be connected?

Hmmm, interesting. I’ve seen some strange problems pop up now and then but don’t recall this ever happening.
It only seems to affect the single post permalinks and not the category or archive permalinks.
Try switching to the default permalinks and see what happens.
