I have a few sites using a premium plugin called AutomaticCSS, and from time to time I get a Wordfence Alert saying this pluign needs to be updated. This happens to many pluigns, but in the case of this one, it say it has to be updated to the same version number.
In the log I can find this line:
[Nov 28 02:18:01:1732760281.435720:3:error] Unable to determine version for plugin automaticcss-plugin
What can cause this, and more important, is there a way to prevent this? When I get an Alert email, I have to act on it and it takes focus away from what I am doing.

    Thanks

    Hi @endres,

For premium plugins where the version information doesn’t come from the wordpress.org repository, it is up to the developers to hook into the WordPress plugins_api to return compatible and up-to-date version numbers for Wordfence to see. We’ve seen many occasions where this has been forgotten. It’s often soon rectified but if not it might be worth contacting them to let them know.

If it’s happening with non-Premium plugins too (when you say it happens to many), scans will sometimes run and detect outdated plugins before auto-updates have had a chance to run. This will often depend on the quantity of traffic to the site triggering WP Crons. The scan will detect outdated plugins at the start, but by the end of the scan WordPress has already updated them, so show the same version number by the end.

Sometimes setting Wordfence > All Options > Email Alert Preferences > Alert me with scan results of this severity level or greater to “Critical” could reduce alerts that you don’t need to be immediately aware of.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.
