Akismet key hard coded in multisite not working

When specifying WPCOM_API_KEY in wp-config.php on a multisite install the site key no longer gets hidden on the akismet settings page.

This is the same topic posted a month ago. We are using the 3.6 version of WP multisite along with 2.5.9.

Has anyone run into this issue? There was also some mention of needing an Enterprise account for educational institutions now. Is the case, and if so, would that resolve the issue?
