What is the exact error message you’re getting? I can’t help you unless I know what problem is, and just “critical error” doesn’t unfortunately tell me anything.

Hello @msaari
I have reactivated the plugin so you can test on your end as well. It might work for you but for others it is not. So for example, if you go to the website and use the search bar on the top left and type “economic crisis”, to me it gives this error “There has been a critical error on this website.
Learn more about troubleshooting WordPress.“
It doesn’t tell me much beyond this
Often you get an email to the site admin address with more details. If you don’t get that, there’s likely something in the server PHP error log (ask your host how to find that if you don’t know where it is).
If only some search terms cause this problem, is there something in common with them? Does disabling custom excerpts in Relevanssi settings help?

@msaari Error log did not have anything relevanssi related. However when I disabled the custom excerpt option, everything seems fine. I will keep checking. Is it okay to keep this option off?
Please don’t ping me every time. You already have my full attention.
You can keep the option disabled but of course that means you don’t get the custom excerpts. To fix this, you need to figure out what in your posts causes this error: it’s some element that the Relevanssi excerpts can’t handle. Once you figure out what that is, this is something that can be fixed.

Mikko I am very Saari for pinging you 😉 (hope my pun made it up)
I did not know it was considered bad practice. The only error log of note is from a plugin called Top 10 posts (fast tracker). Perhaps that is the issue.
Pinging people who’ve replied in the thread is not useful, because they already have a email subscription on the thread if they want to. Every ping means extra emails and a Slack notification, at least for me.
You can enable the excerpts and when you get a broken search, disable the excerpts and investigate the top results. Those posts likely have something the excerpt algorithm can’t digest.
