• I’m setting up an affiliate store where I will only sell products through links from merchants who will then ship their products and collect payment. I will receive a commission from the merchants through whatever affiliate program they are associated with. I need some expert advice in this area from someone at WP. Because of the way products will be ordered, shipped and paid for (through the merchant, not me), do I need an e-commerce template with a shopping cart and payment gateway? It seems to me that the best way to set it up would be with a blog template that I show the linked products, descriptions, and prices on, but if customers don’t see a shopping cart they might wonder about the legitimacy of my site, even though they’ll see a shopping cart on the merchant site eventually. And that brings me to my second question: If I’m displaying products from several different merchants who utilize several different affiliate programs such as Commission Junction, Shareasale, and Linkshare, how would it work when a customer on my site purchases products from different merchants who use different affiliate programs? Wouldn’t they need to pay from different shopping carts belonging to each merchant? It’s very confusing to me, and neither the merchants nor the affiliate programs know the answers to these questions. I hope someone there can help me, otherwise I don’t know how I’ll be able to set this up. Thank you very much.

  • When you become an affiliate member you should be getting an affiliate code. You can include this code along with your linked products. Thus when the customer is taken to the actual merchant site for purchasing the affiliate programs should get to know the referral through the affiliate code.

I appreciate the reply, but it didn’t really answer either of my questions. I need to know what happens when a customer on my affiliate store goes to purchase two or more products from two or more different merchants through different affiliate programs. How is that sale processed in one shopping cart with one payment and one shipping charge? I know that the sale is tracked and leads back to me for my commisiion. I’m concerned with what the customer will experience. My store will showcase different products from different merchants using different affiliate program plugins. I have the SellFire plugin. I need a WP expert on affiliate stores with multiple merchants and affiliate programs who can tell me how this works and what I need to do. Thanks again for any help.

Try asking your affiliate agent(s). This is not a WordPress issue.

I had posted the rely based on your customers being redirected to the merchant site. I don’t think you can have a shopping cart and collect the payment and shipping. Because as far as i can understand you don’t stock the product and neither you are going to ship it. How do you intend to pass on the payment to the merchants after collecting it using your shopping cart.

Hi solarelvis. I have the exact same multiple affiliates shop setup request from a client. Did you happen to find any answers or best practices for this situation? I’m also concerned about poor user-experience but haven’t found a way around it. Thanks for sharing any advice.
