Advice needed

    Hello all. I am working on developing a new humor based website with wordpress 3.0.4 and need a little advice.

    Pingbacks-
    Right now I am working on collecting weird news stories from around the web. When I mention a story I have come across or something should I enter a “pingback” when I am editing the post even if I do not know if the site is a wordpress site? At least that is how I THINK the pingbacks work.

    Excerpt-
    How important is it to include an excerpt about a post? I have not been entering one but if it is a good practice I would be willing to go back through my over 100 posts and add one.

    Like I said I am working on developing this site so nothing is set in stone yet and the site is still in its beta version while I set everything up.

    Any advice or replies you could give me would be wonderful. Thank you in advance.

    Excerpts: Depends on if you’re showing them on your site or not. If your site shows full posts all the time, it’s not an issue. If you’re showing the excerpt on index pages (like the front page or the archives) then you should always make custom excerpts.

    Thank you Ipstenu. I think as a rule of thumb I will start writing excerpts for all posts incase any time in the future I want to use them. That means I need to go back and write them for the 101 weird news stories I posted yesterday and today. lol

    I had another question about pingbacks.

    I have one right now where I guess someone is sending a pingback to me. In the information box all I see is this.

    […] Smiles, Laughs and WTF! Skip to content HomeAboutSite rulesWeird news stories ← Farmers leave bare-butt thief hog-tied for […]

    Now “Farmers leave bare-butt thief hog-tied for” is one of my stories I have posted. But is there any way to find out where this pingback is coming from? I want to know before I approve it.

    I am still trying to figure out how people are finding this site so fast already. Man, wordpress is so much better then joomla!
