• I apologize, this got entered into the wrong section and I can’t move it to “troubleshooting”

For some reason, when I enter the adsense code for a small square ad into my sidebar.php, it pushes everything down to the bottom of the page. I assume it’s because it’s too wide at 200×200.
If I increase the width of the page it throws things off. Is there a way I can get this to fit? Possibly narrow the main post section a hair?
    Thank you

  • Better suggestion: use the 120×600 skyscraper adsense setup…. or even the 120×240 one – but you have plenty of vertical space there as opposed to horizontal.

I thought of that but already have one on the left. I thought it might be a bit much. Plus, I was hoping to take advantage of possible video ads by using the square?

Well, then, from a quick look at that theme, it’s fixed width and changing it would mean rewriting the whole theme. The reason for the fixed width is so that it will display at lower screen resolutions without popping a side scroll.

You can try setting the side width to 260px and the content width to 310px to see what happens. If it were me, I’d find a 3 column fluid theme to use.

Well, since I’m new to all of this and have a hard enough time customizing the look as it is, I changed the content width to 370 which seems to be working.

It’s still popping out to the right of the sidebar (FF 2.0.0.1 and IE7, 17″ monitor, 1024×768 as well as on my other 17″ 1280×1024). The only browser it shows right in is IE6. If you don’t give the sidebar more room, the block won’t ever sit inside it (except in the world’s most broken browser of course). I tried the dimensions I posted above by editing the css using the FF webdev toolbar, and they did keep the adsense block inside the sidebar.

Yep – that block pops out on the right for me, too. IE7, 1024×768 screen res.
