Hi Bluecat, I’m going to take a stab at your problem. I think the hoster who told you to look for php meant there is a file on your server with the name wp-login.php which manages the login process. When your designer changed your login information they may have used a plugin to do so (at least that is what I normally do).
The normal url is http://mywebsite.com/wp-admin or http://mywebsite.com/admin. Your designer can change that to make your website more secure. If you know what url you use for logging on that will help your new host.
If there is a plugin installed then you should be able to just deactivate it.

Thank you suziwilson
I will try that option however a new challenge has arisen.
I now find that I get the following message when trying to log in
You have been locked out due to too many invalid login attempts
Apart from wait who should I approach as each time I request a new password the above message appears after trying to log back in.
Any advice would be most welcome

First, I would wait 30 minutes to see if it restores itself. After that I would try the help desk for wherever your website is hosted.
I would think your new website host would be willing to help you out.
If you have access to the cpanel for your website I can help more.

Hi suzi
Thanks for your help and support!
I found that video useful and change the password, went to the log in page and found the new password was rejected.
I am waiting for the administrater to get back to me and I came across this email from him
Hi
We actually change the standard wordpress log in as a security measure as hackers try and log in and they know the standard url for admin. So the actual admin to use is
http://www.knowyoucan.org.uk/kwadmin
The above is what I have been using to get to the log in page and I think thats the root cause of the problem.
I would welcome your thoughts on a way forward please
Regards
Blue
Changing the login URL is the way a reputable designer does it so your designer was smart to do that. However, you should be able to login. Did you follow the http://pajhome.org.uk/crypt/md5 link to enter your password and get the encrypted one to paste into your php database record?
Also, check to be sure you are typing the same username as is in your database.
It is possible that the cpanel you are logging into is not actually connected to your website. This can happen when your website is being transferred to a different server.

Thanks for the link it was not to clear in video. I used it to change my password and used the password to try logging in again however I got a message saying to many logins.
Just to be clear, my website is hosted by Go Daddy and because of the changed login URL not containing the letters php they can not migrate the wordpress account.
So I made a note of what I think is working and will try it in the morning
Closing on a postive note I was able to delete users from 3 years ago within the cpanel.
I will leave you with a question, can the changed login URL be overidden ?
Thanks for your help
Regards
Blue
There are so many ways this feature can be implemented that I don’t know how to answer your question.
Here is a link to an article by one of my favorite theme developers where they talk about your login and how to protect it. https://www.elegantthemes.com/blog/tips-tricks/how-to-create-a-custom-wordpress-login-url
I use the WPS Login plugin for my sites, but I don’t know what your developer used.

Hi Suzi
I got back into my account and wanted to say a BIG THANK!!! as you were the author of that!
I have looked at the eleganthemes site and was on the brink of installing the WPS Login when I realised my grapic designer is in the process of fine tweaking my website. So as not to muddy the waters I will hold of on installing the WPS Login feature until he has finished.
In closing if I can return the favour do ask!
With kind regards
