Hi all, this is my first forum post ever so forgive me if I put this in the wrong location.

I’m curious…I have just added to the twentyten theme’s two column layout to make it three columns in my css child theme. I am finding it tough for space. I wanted to expand the entire site so that I could get an extra 100 px’s. I tried to adjust #main to 1060 px and nothing happened and then with that I expanded the #container to 1040 px ( I added 100px to both more or less). What’s strange is that nothing happened after I expanded main and when I expanded the content my left sidebar overlapped my content area lol. Totally baffling to me. I am somewhat new to this and would appreciate any comments as to whether or not I can make the site wider or not and why these other things did nothing or in one case overlapped the content area. Thanks

  • The sidebar position is set by the margins, use FireFox and the FireBug plugin (Ctrl+F12) to view the applied styles and adjust the ones that are holding the width.

I did do a tutorail a while back for the old twenty ten theme, there are posts on layout and two sidebars that might help.

I did visit the website but it looks like you have reset the width to 940px?

Do a find in the parent style.css to locate all the 940px widths, and adjust these in the child style.css, when viewing some data is cached, (Ctrl+F5) reload the stylesheet with the changes.
