That function will only work in the single event templates. Are you trying to use it outside of those templates?

Hi for upcoming events in footer widget of my theme I would like to show the upcoming events location. Currently the event title and date shows.

I am assuming it would be a php echo code that would just take the venue address that is plugged in when the event is created and display it?

Thanks for following up! If you’re looking to add venue details to the Events List widget that’s included with The Events Calendar, you may wish to look into picking up a license for Events Calendar PRO–the PRO feature additions include a more robust Events List widget with support for location details, among a number of other display modifications.
As far as customizations for our free products are concerned, I’d suggest referring to our Themer’s Guide and Technical Docs for any questions you might have in that direction. We’re limited in our ability to provide customization support here, but we’d be happy to try and point you in the right direction should you have any specific concerns.
