adding themes to local install on linux

  • I have LAMP installed on LinuxMint12 and everything is working well with my WordPress install except for uploads of themes.

Originally when I went to Appearance>Themes>Install New, I would get a permissions error. I chmod’ed the folder to have 777 permissions and have gotten past the permissions error, however now WP is asking for my ftp info.

Additionally, if I extract theme files straight into the wp-content/themes folder they do not show up in the list of Available themes.

Any ways to work around the screen asking for ftp info, or to get themes extracted into the themes folder to show up? At this point I don’t care which way I get themes in, I just need to get them to show up and activate.

    thanks in advance!

Can you describe exactly what you are doing?
