I want to add the basic “read more” tag to my posts once I begin to get more, but cannot seem to figure out how. I know there are some plug-ins available but I thought that there was a standard one already included. I am using a child theme of twenty-twelve. My site is: catholictravelblog.com

Any help in getting started would be appreciated. I don’t know code, although I suppose I could do a little bit if that is necessary.

I have read it, but don’t understand it. I understand the basic concept” To add a more quicktag in your post, put your cursor where you want to end the excerpted content of your post and click the more quicktag button. quicktags are the little buttons found above the editing window in your Administration > Write > Post SubPanel. They include bold, italic, links, and others, and the famous more.

I insert the more button, but nothing changes. So I must be missing a step after that.

Well, it does work after all. When I hit preview this post it does not show it but when I go completely out of WordPress and pull it up in another browser there it is! Weird, imho.

Thanks to those who responded. One more question. I thought I had it figured out….but then the next post I tried it on it did not appear to work. Do I need to clear my cache, or is there some sort of delay?

Generally, yes, you should clear your browser cache. And if your site is using any caching that may prevent changes from appearing right away as well.
