Adding space between sections

I have several different sections with fields, but the sections are running into each other. I used the CSS feature to add color to the section titles, but what I really want is to have some added spacing between sections. But, when I add padding or margin to the styles, nothing happens. Can somebody point me to what I’m doing wrong?
