Adding Prefix or Suffix to Display Name

Hi…
Is there a quick way to hard code a Prefix (Mr., Mrs.) or Suffix (Jr., Sr.) to the profile display_name without changing the core um-actions.php file?

In general, what’s the best practice in modifying core files?
