Is it possible to import new products with a csv file? Can I take my exported csv file and add new products, then import?

1.Do they have to be at the end of the file?

2.Also I have seen instructions to import products first, and then import variations separately. When I look at my exported file they are all listed together in order.

    3. The attributes appear on the file listed as attribute, 1, attribute 2 etc. Can I change these when I import them?

Hi @bloke, yes, products can be imported via CSV.

I’d recommend reading our documentation on how the built-in product csv importer/exporter works. You can find it here:

    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/product-csv-importer-exporter/

That document includes instructions on how to import products using that tool, so your questions should be answered there. But to quickly address them.

    1. The order of the products in the CSV file doesn’t matter.

    2. When using the built-in importer, variable products and variations can be imported at the same time, using the same file. There are other importer tools out there that require those to be imported separately.

    3. I’m not sure I understand your question here. Do you mean whether you can change the attribute names via the CSV import? If you add different attributes, then those will be updated on the existing products. If the attributes you add do not exist on the store already, then they will be created at the same time you import that file.

My images are in month and day folders. All I have to do is make sure the image is there and list the file path on the csv file?

Is there any benefit to the Product CSV Import Suite by Woocommerce? I am only revising and adding my own products and not importing vendors’ lists.

Not the file path but the URL of the image. From the documentation shared above:

    * Images need to be pre-uploaded or available online to import to your store.
    * External URLs are supported and imported into the Media Library if used.

The main difference between the Product CSV Import suite extension vs the built-in importer is that the paid plugin includes the ability to import hidden meta data. This is useful when importing product information added by certain plugins. I think the main value add is that it can import/export hidden meta whereas the core tool cannot. A prime example is Dynamic Pricing, people can export and import pricing rules with this tool and not with core.

Note that the Import Suite plugin requires you to import variable products and their variations separately, not in the same file.

    Hi there,

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.

    Kind regards,
