• Hi, I’m very new to wordpress and blogging. I’m starting to post but I can’t tell whether I am posting to home page or to the link after the home page. Please help!!!

I want to post a posting on the homepage, then have readers to click on that post to see more info on the next page. Hope this is making sense.

    Thanks

Although it does depend upon your chosen theme, that is exactly how WordPress normally works.

I want to understand when a post is going to appear on the homepage. Question: is the 1st post in a category always appear on homepage, and additional post to same category appear on next page?

What if I want to post somewhere other than homepage?

The problem I had last night, was that I added a post with an image to a particular category. Then I added another post in the same category with another image, however the second image kept replacing the 1st image I posted. The 2nd image was then on the homepage instead of the 1st image. I became disgusted and trashed all the posts.

Hey I think I may have answered my own question. Do I just use the “add-more-tag” to have reader continue to a another page to read additional postings to the homepage post?

    Thanks

searched website for my local area which brought me to this wordpress.org, I want to put a link to my web site on that site. How do I go about it?

@jjones: Don’t highjack another poster’s thread. This is a forum for self-hosted wordpress.org sites. If you don’t have such a site, your question does not belong here.

is the 1st post in a category always appear on homepage, and additional post to same category appear on next page?

All post appear on the home page(s) in date order – most recent first. Over time, posts will be pushed off page 1 of the home page and onto page 2 etc.

The problem I had last night, was that I added a post with an image to a particular category.

That sounds like a theme issue/feature.

Do I just use the “add-more-tag” to have reader continue to a another page to read additional postings to the homepage post?

No. WordPress creates the additional home pages automatically.

Thanks Esmi, for the responses. However, yesterday I inserted an image and then I inserted the more tag, added more images and the 1st image stayed on the homepage and all additional images were on the next page.

But today I’m doing a new post and the original problem has occurred. How do I keep an image on the homepage until I want to move it somewhere else?

    Thanks

    I’m using wordpress “producer” theme.

Question: Could a <div> code help? I’m just learning codes, but I looked at post from last night and noticed that <div> was the 1st code. I then looked at today’s post that replaced the first image and the beginning code was <p>.

However, yesterday I inserted an image and then I inserted the more tag, added more images and the 1st image stayed on the homepage and all additional images were on the next page.

Not quite. Using the more tag restricts the display on the home page to just the content above the tag. The full post is displayed on the single post’s page – which is not the same as page 2 of the Home page.

    Could a <div> code help?

No. I’m not sure what the “original problem” is/was. all of the post on the home page will work the same way. Click on their titles or the Read more link and you’ll get the full post.
