You’re exactly right that the only way for an admin to join the board currently is to do it themselves. If you wanted to add all board members to the board you should be able to using the Members plugin and providing all admins the “serve_on_board” capability. Of course, this requires a little more technical know-how and the easiest way to accomplish what you’re talking about is to simply have the admins add themselves.

Basically, I guess I’m looking for a plugin that can take an organization, add them to its roles, and allow them to sign up for one or any committees. I then want to leverage the members of the committees and display each committee with its chair, co-chair, and regular members. This changes every year. Am I wishing on a star for this type of plugin? Thanks!
Haha. You might be. Can you explain a little more about what you mean when you say “take an organization, add them to its roles”?
As far as displaying each committee with the chair and co-chair, the plugin does allow you to display your board members, but not by committees. And currently there isn’t functionality to label a chair or co-chair. If you’d like we’d be happy to provide a bid for that functionality, but it’s unfortunately not something we could throw together very quickly.

Hi Jonathan, thanks for the followup.
Many of us non-profit client webmasters already have existing websites — hand coded. What I would like to do is to update these sites to responsive WordPress sites.
That would entail, among other things, importing their existing members, member ids, and member hierarchy, including existing board members and committees.
Because most of my clients are non-profits, they don’t have funds for a custom solution (and working for these non-profits doesn’t pay very well so I can only donate my time and services). So I was hoping for a base solution that I could tailor since it appears no one has created this before. I have about 5 or 6 sites I would like to update this way with about 50 to 200 members in each.
As an organization that works solely with nonprofits, I completely understand where you’re coming from and we really appreciate your desire to help these organizations with their online presence.
Hopefully the plugin can provide a solid foundation for you to customize to meet the needs of each organization.
