Adding a secondary Navigation

Hi everyone

I can see the way most templates work is to have a drop down from the top nav which shows all the pages within it. This could get problematic once too many pages are in.

Instead I’d like to add a secondary nav, just static on the page in question. i.e. look at this link and my nav would appear below the page title “mains” – http://www.willkay.com/wordpress/?page_id=8 (there are currently 3 pages within ‘mains’ but no way to get to them, bar scrolling right to the bottom)

How do I go about making edits to the code, is it possible? I am a web designer so wont have trouble with the CSS and HTML but Im not sure which files to edit (perhaps a main template file?) and also how I would add widgets(?) so that this secondary nav auto displays.

Thanks very much for any help, I only installed tonight so just need some tips to get me started. Or even a tutorial?
