• Have seen a few similar topics; but I posted in one and was told I should start my own topic so sorry for the duplication.

Basically the “add media” button has stopped working. When you click on it, nothing happens. On the second or third click the window then opens, but the window is entirely blank except for the (greyed out) “insert into post” button in the bottom right. There is no box to select a file.

There is a blank screen regardless of which option on the left-hand side (“insert media”, “create gallery” or “select featured image” is chosen; however a dialog box appears when “insert from URL” is clicked (and it works – I checked). However if you then subsequently click one of the other three options, the dialog box for “insert from URL” still remains.

I have disabled all plugins and the issue still happens
I have switched to the default theme and the issue still happens

Has anybody else experienced a similar problem, and have any ideas how I can fix it?

Someone with the know how should try to help you, a dev can’t weigh in on this? So many people have this problem of not being able to insert media into a post. It shouldn’t be happening at all!

I’m sorry I don’t have the knowledge to help you 🙁

I was hoping somebody would have an idea, but nobody seems to know what’s going on. Thanks for the reply anyway though!

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    Tried the first two
My administrator has, I believe, tried the third – I don’t have FTP access myself over our networks

Not too sure what the fourth one involves; I don’t know how to upload folders (I just use the usual interface) – how do I do that?

I think you may need to speak to your administrator about this. It requires FTP access.
