Accessing HTML to remove phantom menu

    I’m old-school HTML and I often find the confines of website management programs to be stifling. Today, I find it maddening. 😉

    All I wanted to do was edit a menu. I decided to use my second menu because my top/first menu was getting crowded with the search bar in there. I didn’t mess with anything but the menu, yet when I went to view it my side bar menu was suddenly in my second menu, along with the contents of my first menu.

    I’ve tried deleting all menus and redoing the first menu on the top bar, but the phantom menu remains. It never occurred to me to do a backup before a simple menu change, so I investigated to fix it. The source code clearly shows a menu duplication and if I was using HTML I could just go delete it, instead it’s hours later and I’m still stuck.

    Is there a way to get at the HTML or is there another way to fix it? I’d appreciate any help, thank you.

    I had a similar problem.

    Tried all the recommended troubleshooting procedures:
    – Disable plugins
    – Change template
    – Create a new menu
    – Modify .htaccess file

    Even used databases backups.

    All of them above didn´t fix the issue.

    Then I found the Manage Locations tab at Appearance, Menus. It´s the right tab next to the “Edit Menus”. There is the option to select the menu; and, everything then worked fine.

    Thanks Pablo. As long as I have a menu in there, everything is fine. If I leave it blank (as it was) the categories get copied into the menu. I left “Home” in the top one and shifted my actual menu to the second one and all is well. I’ll consider that a resolution for my purposes and move on to the next headache. 😉
