A question about Permalinks

    I have the htaccess file set up. Now how do I change the links and do I need to do them each individualy or can I do them all at once?

    Options –>Permalinks in your admin panel should do the trick. If you haven’t already, read the codex page on permalinks and permissions on your .htaccess file. Using_Permalinks

    My host has mod_rewrite and I want to do something like this.
    /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%post_id%/

    How do I set this up in the box in the permalinks section of admissions in my blog?

    Do I just paste this in or do I need to paste the link in for each post?

    Paste that into the box, click the update(or what ever it says at the bottom button), and if all is well, it will say at the top “permalinks updated”. If the file doesn’t have the right permissions, it will say something to the effect “if the file was writable..”, and then have the info that would be cut and pasted into the .htaccess file.

    I did something wrong. The individual pages are blank when I click on them.

    I had to delete the htaccess and upload a new blank one

    I’m assuming you’re working on a site other than the NSFW one in your username link, in which I find no reference to WordPress in the source, and the single page view worked?

    I’m using the one in my username link. I can view the front page but not the single post links won’t work

    Is WP writing to the .htaccess, or are you copying and pasting the rewrite rules?

    There’s no need to paste all that. I simply was inquiring as to whether or not WP was writing to the .htaccess. Did you paste that on the current .htaccess? And why not simply alter the permissions, and let WP write?

    yeah.. lol I got now. I have another question though. Can I change the dates of posts without messing up the links or should I reset the permalinks if I need to do that?

    Got what? Permalinks working? For future viewers of this thread, could you clarify on what you did to succeed.

    AFAIK, changing the time stamp shouldn’t effect anything regarding permalinks, other than possible incoming links getting 404 errors.
