_bundle_cart_key Replacing PPOM Data

    We have a short question on our kitchen door pages: it’s whether the user would like to add hinge hole drilling to the door product, with 3 options for where the hole will be on the door.

    This data usually feeds through perfectly, but this time it didn’t display the data, and instead had a “_bundle_cart_key” which displayed on the WooC backend, as well as the email notifications.

    I cannot recreate this error, and it’s something I’ve never seen before or since, but it’s caused a refund in the several hundreds, so I want to at least explore a precautionary action to avoid in the future.

    Anyone ever experience this error before and know a way to avoid in the future?

    Plugin version: v34.0.7
    WordPress version: 7.0.3.

    Are you using any WooCommerce bundle plugin on your site? If yes, could you share the exact name (and version, if possible) of the plugin? That will help us try to replicate the issue on our end.

    Thanks for your response, Poonam.

    There is no product bundle plugin downloaded or activate on the website, and there’s no bundle products – all simple/variable products.

    I’m completely stumped on where this is being pulled in from.

    Thanks for confirming that. This sounds like a similar case we have seen before, where the same “_bundle_cart_key” text appeared in place of the PPOM options even though no bundle plugin was installed. You can find that discussion here:

    In that case the issue was linked to express checkout buttons (PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay) placed on the product or cart pages. Orders placed through those buttons can skip the normal WooCommerce checkout process, which is when the PPOM data gets lost. The user in that thread resolved it by disabling the “PayPal Now Experience” option in the WooCommerce PayPal Payments settings, so customers go through the regular checkout page instead.

    Could you check if you are using WooCommerce PayPal Payments with that option enabled, and try turning it off? It would also help to know which payment method was used on the affected order.

    I’ve now deactivated the express checkout for PayPal – this seems to align with the previous order details where the issue arose.
