Just tried Easy Heads Up Bar and as soon as I published an entry I got a server 500 error.

I am currently using Apollo Bar – but because it is no longer maintained I wanted to switch to a plugin that is maintained. So it could have been a conflict between the two plugins – or possibly a conflict with my template (Warp Master 2).

Anyway, I had to use FTP to delete the Easy Heads Up Bar directory to get the site back online.

Before I try this again with the Apollo bar disabled, does anyone have any ideas for me to try?

Hello EastDevonAlliance, thanks for sharing the experience. 500 Errors while scary, are super vague. Was there any additional information in the error_log or php-errors.log on your server?

This may be accessed via your Cpanel, assuming you have one, or you might find it in the by poking around via FTP.

If your unable to update WordPress, not ideal but understandable if you have an old theme you need to support etc. And the Apollo bar works for your needs I honestly think there that troubleshooting this issue could be more hassle than it’s worth.

Here are my recommended steps to help troubleshoot your error:

    1. Make sure the plugin & WordPress are up to date
    2. To test what’s wrong, disable all your other plugins and switch to the default WordPress theme.
    3. If the problem goes away, then it is a possible conflict error. Figure out which plugin is the cause of the problem by turning them on one at a time.
