• I have seen many posts about this, but no resolution. I am 100% sure it is NOT my hosting provider. URL rewrites work in other parts of the site.

So, my problem is if I choose any Permalink that is different than the default, it gives me that dreaded error. To clarify, it only does this if I click on a post. All other functions of the site work normally.

    Any help appreciated. THANKS 😀

Hello? Does anyone know the answer to this?

What version of WordPress and mod_rewrite?

I was having the exact same problem and contacted my provider yesterday. This is the reply I got from them:

There were too many hung processes for your account (they were started about 2 hours ago) and you had reached the maximum allowed processes count. A hosting account cannot run too many processes at the very same time for server stability reasons. The hung scripts were “index.php” and “wp-rss2.php”. We terminated the processes.

The issue may have been caused by a spam attack against your blogs. Scripts also may hung this way if they try to connect to a remote host for some reason (to fetch an RSS feed, to check for a blacklist, etc.) and this host is not reachable. Badly coded scripts (which have no proper timeout limit) hang forever waiting for the remote host in such a case.

My guess is it had something to do with Pingomatic or maybe Spam Karma’s blacklist being down and no timeout written in to the script.
