• Hi all

I have recently upgraded to the latest version of wordpress 3. something and since that i cant access my dashboard or anything, once logged in as soon as i click on anything it will say ERROR 404.

The website was registerd using godaddy.
My website is still online and does not seem to be affected but like i say i cant edit or access anything.

Im not a web designer even tho i set up the site so any answers would appreciate it if there kept simple.

    Many thanks
    Elliott

  • Can you make sure that all the files in the wp-admin section were updated?

Why don’t you do a manual update of WordPress? It might help. To do so:

    1. Download the latest WordPress from http://wordpress.org/download/
    2. Make a backup of your website using the hosting company’s Cpanel
    3. Connect to your website using FTP
    4. Delete All files in the root which start with wp- except wp-config.php.
    5. Delete the wp-admin and wp-includes directory.
    6. Upload the extracted download and DO NOT overwrite the wp-content directory.

    That should do the trick.

Hi thanks for the reply is there any easier options?

The procedure you talk about is there any step by step in depth instructions to follow because that sounds pretty complicated.

Not really. Here is a detailed explanation of how to do a manual upgrade:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended

It is not as complicated as it sounds.

I had alook at the procedure but its says to deactivate plugins before carrying on, how am i supposed to do this when i cant access anything on my site.

    Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

My wp folders and themes are in my website which i dont have access to what ever i try and do error 404 appears

Please re-read my post above. None of the suggestions I made require you to login to your WordPress dashboard.

I just followed the steps and now i have nothing but a blank white sreen when i type in my url i have renamed it back to the original and still nothings returned

Re-upload a fresh, unpacked, copy of the Twenty Eleven folder to wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

iv tried this and still not working just got a blank white screen

Try looking in your site’s error logs. Ask your hosts for access to them if you do not have access already.

theres nothing in my error logs

Try turning debug on and enabling error logging through WordPress. It might help…
