    Hello,

We’re seeing a ton of 404 errors for the meta.json file URL. Shouldn’t this plugin be creating and maintaining that definition file for our site?

    Thanks,

    Hi @seanconklin ,

The meta.json file (or the subsequent errors) are not connected to the Meta for WooCommerce plugin – they could come from crawlers, or other third-party plugins.

    Kind regards,

Yes I’m asking for the Meta/Woo plugin to be in charge of generating the Meta JSON file that the Meta bot crawler looks to be desperately in search of, like 15k hits a month in our 404 logs.

Can this plugin be in charge of /meta.json? I would think it fitting.

    Hi @seanconklin ,

Completely understand why you would assume that – but we have double-checked this internally as well, and assure you the Meta for WooCommerce plugin is not what’s generating or filling the meta.json file.

Yes, I’m requesting that this plugin creates and maintains the meta.json file as part of its feature set. After all, using this plugin causes the MetaBot to look for it on the site, quite frequently in fact.

Hi @seanconklin – thank you for clarifying.

At the moment, there are no plans for the Meta for WooCommerce plugin to generate or maintain the /meta.json file.

While you may see requests for this file from Meta’s crawlers, those requests are not triggered by the plugin itself, and it’s not necessary for Meta for WooCommerce plugin to be present for the /meta.json file to exist – and vice-versa.

    Kind regards,
    Marija

Seems like a real missed opportunity though. The Meta plugin could maintain a Meta definitions file for the Meta bot to utilize.

    Hi @seanconklin ,

Although there are currently no plans for the file to be generated by the plugin, we will let you know if anything changes.

Please let us know if you have any further questions regarding the plugin.

    Kind regards,
    Marija
