[resolved] 4.0-beta1 Embeds previews missing (3 posts)

I've read here: http://wordpress.org/news/2014/07/wordpress-4-0-beta-1/ that the media library finally supports YouTube etc. in "Insert from URL".

    • The problem is that when I paste URL there is no indication whatsoever if the link is correct or not.
    • Another problem is that I would expect it to show YouTube player (just like it shows images) so I know what will be inserted.
      • Ideally, it should have some embed settings (like disable "related videos" at the end of YouTube playback.
    • Furthermore, shouldn't there be an option to insert custom iframe for super administrators? Such iframe should be parsed and shown in the visual text editor. Otherwise it's still very limited.
    • When images are being loaded from the server (AJAX) I occasionally end up seeing completely blank view for even 5-10 seconds. There is no indication that images are being loaded.
    • Minor: Upload image while creating "Post 1" and the media library window doesn't refresh (never, even if you close and reopen it) in another window in "Post 2". When image is uploaded all views should be refreshed on all subpages for all editors/contributors. Otherwise it limits usefulness of this window on collaborative blogs.

Lastly: This media library is not editable by an average human developer. I wanted to add there "Google Maps" option long ago but it's not documented anyhow anywhere. Media Library is some big, complex, slow script (1s+ to perform "Insert to Post") that nobody except for its author can edit.

    Update:
After updating to 4.0-beta1-20140714 I can see YouTube/SoundCloud previews. However, it takes like 5-10 seconds to see them and there is no loading indicator in the meantime.

There should be a loading indicator.

Also, when I try to edit inserted embed there is no preview in the media library window and it doesn't appear after waiting 30 seconds so I assume it won't appear.

  3. This post is about multiple issues, which is hard to track.

The problem is that when I paste URL there is no indication whatsoever if the link is correct or not.

How do you mean? It's not really up to WP to know that you pasted the right or wrong URL because that's a bit subjective.

Adding in options and params would be the place for a plugin.

Another problem is that I would expect it to show YouTube player (just like it shows images) so I know what will be inserted.

At the insert/add link tool? It can't unless it has the data cached, so if you did that it would have to load the video, get the thumbnail, cache it, and THEN display, which would be a little slow.

This media library is not editable by an average human developer. I wanted to add there "Google Maps" option long ago but it's not documented anyhow anywhere.

    Add it where?

shouldn't there be an option to insert custom iframe for super administrators?

No because iframes are a last resort anyway.

When images are being loaded from the server (AJAX) I occasionally end up seeing completely blank view for even 5-10 seconds. There is no indication that images are being loaded.

You should see the boxes for the images. They'll be grey till the image loads, but it shouldn't be a blank white page unless you're having PHP memory issues. Have you tested with your plugins off and using a default theme to see if that's the issue?

Minor: Upload image while creating "Post 1" and the media library window doesn't refresh (never, even if you close and reopen it) in another window in "Post 2".

Not until you refresh post 2, this would be true. It's not THAT dynamic yet :)

You can leave a comment there for that issue and suggestion :)
