4.0.2+ post author not selected

As of 4.0.2 and 4.0.3 (it works fine on 4.0.1) the user who creates a post is not set as the author of the post (author field shows a blank nameless user – screenshot). If I save draft or publish it saves with blank user (screenshot).

The code of this blank user button is:

Users with publish permissions can delete this nameless user and select other users or themselves from the list and publish. But users without publish permissions can now not even save a draft (says permission denied). I assume because they can’t save as another (blank) user.

This behaviour happens only on posts (pages, events and other post types work normally).
