3.9 Auto Update Not working

    For my website http://picsofcanada.com I am constantly being nagged with emails and messsages every time I login to update to 3.9. But everytime I attempt to Update Now the process fails with the following message:
    Downloading update from https://downloads.wordpress.org/release/wordpress-3.9.zip…

    Unpacking the update…

    Could not create directory.: wordpress/wp-admin/css/colors

    Installation Failed

    Now the error message is strange because WordPress is installed in the root directory at http://www.picsofcanada.com. Also I cannot find out what FTP address and password the WordPress update agent is trying to use.

    I need to solve this auto update problem rather than do the long and tedious manual update process with each new WP update.

    For TFP credentials you may want to contact your hosting company.

    The downside is you may have to resort to the manual process; the upside is it may only have to be this time. 🙂

    You may want to make sure wordpress/wp-admin/css/colors (and parent folders) have write perms from the webserver. A cheap workaround is to chmod 777 any folders that are complained about. Set them back to chmod 755 or 750 after the update. You can use either ftp or your hosted control panels file manager to change the folder access modes.
