30 Second Load Speeds..Advice?

My website has terrible loads. Im looking to figure out the problem, have it fixed, and also learn what I can do to prevent this going forward. The main page shows a 30 second average load on my google analytics. Every other page is between 4-7 seconds. Someone searches my sites URL, they get to the site, it starts to load and then they try to scroll, but the whole browser locks up along with the page freezing.

I’ve be to GTMETRIX.com, and have seen the recommendations. Problem is, I am very new to this, and do not understand most of the recommendations.

Please advise.

Slowness/high CPU usage could be due to (but not limited to):
– a poor or memory intensive theme
– poor or memory intensive plugins
– your server is slow (e.g., “process hang”, overload, you get a lot of visitors, other problems, etc.).
Test your site at (free online testing) at: http://gtmetrix.com/leverage-browser-caching.html or http://www.webpagetest.org/ or http://fpt.pingdom.com/#!/bZN8il/http://www.heartsandguns.co.uk/

Try reducing the content of that page to about 15% of what it is right now and with only one video. Wanting to put all your best or favorite content on the front page is understandable, but I would much rather click to see more than to have to scroll a page that seems to never end and makes me wait.

PS: A few days ago I saw a site that makes yours look short, and I finally left after about three minutes of continual scrolling without ever getting to the bottom!
