Since updating to 3.4.0, I’ve had two problems:

    1. I get the Warning: link … not following” error message, even though I’ve already excluded the file. Aside from the message, the backup finishes and looks OK.

    2. The old Dropbox backups aren’t being deleted.

    Hi @grammarphobe,

#2 is intended behavior. There is a warning now shown beside the file deletion field that says exactly this: that old archives will not be deleted from prior to 3.4.0. You will have to delete those yourself, but from here forward the files will be deleted correctly.

#1 will require a bit more information. What directory is the link file in? Did you exclude it by excluding its folder, or putting the name of that file in the list of files to exclude?

    Hi, Brandon,

In the “Exclude files/folders from backup” section under “Files” in the “Edit”area for the Job in question, these are the exclusions:

    “.DS_Store,.git,.svn,.tmp,/home/content/13/9352413/html/stats/logs,desktop.ini”

This is the warning message: “WARNING: Link “/home/content/13/9352413/html/stats/logs” not following.

Thanks for looking into this. I’m technically illiterate, so please try to explain any steps I have to take as simply as possible. Thanks again.

@grammarphobe, okay this is a bug, and I have found the root cause. So it will definitely be fixed in the next version. For now it is not harming anything so I would not worry about it.

You could try excluding the parent folder in the meantime if you don’t need that folder in your backup.

Thanks, Brandon.I assume I should leave this as unresolved for the time being.

Yesterday I discovered that version 3.4.0 is backup files from excluded folders.
Is a bugs this version ?
Thanks for looking and check this.

Hi @przema, this is not a known issue. Can you please give more detail? What directory have you excluded, how have you tried to exclude it, and what is the result?

Hi Brandon, here is my issue:
I use several symlink to nfs huge content folders on nas.
In a site of mine (a single site) symlinks are correctly listed as folder so I can exclude them nicely.
But on a multisite, symlinks are located deep inside folder tree and I have to use the “Exclude files/folders from backup” section.
Previously settings like “.DS_Store,.git,.svn,.tmp,/var/www/wordpress/wp-content/blogs.dir/19/files/video/,/var/www/wordpress/wp-content/blogs.dir/21/files/annuari_ct/,desktop.ini” works at the best (“video” in subsite 19 and “annuari_ct” in subsite 21 are the symlinks).

Now my BackWPup is happily trying to backup 300 and more gigabyte of data, seems better to exclude those subsite in the meantime …

Hi @manisoff, Oh I see what you mean. This is an issue that was just fixed and will be in the next release. If you’d like the fix before then, feel free to contact us and I can send you the updated code.

Surely I can wait some days for the next update if you plan to get out soon with the next release. If not, yes, you could send me the updated code.
    Thanks very much.

@all These bugs and others have been fixed. If you’d like to test the updated version prior to release to make sure they work for you, please contact us here so we can send you the updated version.

    The case looks like this:
In the program settings – jobs – I have job – backup daily.
Inside this job we have options files – Folders to backup and several options – Folders to backup. I mark Backup uploads folder /wordpress/wp-content/uploads and next Exclude a few folder (2014,2015,2016,2017). This few exclude folder I mark.
So, Up to version 3.4.0 all this exclude folder were not copied – backup size is 48 MB. And after that version is installed, these folders copy and I have 1.2 GB backup. This is problem.
