2 UpdraftPlus folders on GoogleDrive

    Hi,

    I use GoogleDrive to store the backups. I changed the google account for one site to a different google account, which already has an Updraftplus folder because 3 other sites’ backups are already stored there.

    So I de-authorized the original googledrive and re-authorized for googledrive2 (a different googledrive account). When it authorized on googledrive2, it created an additional UpdraftPlus folder on GoogleDrive and uploads the backups there. So I now have two UpdraftPlus folders on googledrive2.

    It took me awhile to figure out where it was uploading the backups to.

    It used to just add the new site’s backups to the same UpdraftPlus folder, so all backups from all sites are lumped together in one folder. Is this the new normal behavior, to add an additional UpdraftPlus folder when authorizing a new site?

    Ok, I just tested a backup for one of the sites that already was on that googledrive, and it uploaded the new backup files to the newly-created UpdraftPlus folder. I retain 3 sets of backups. The previous 3 backups are still in the original UpdraftPlus folder, the oldest of which is no longer listed in the “Existing backups” section in the Updraft plus plugin area.

    I’m guessing the other two sites will do the same. Since these are all small backups, I won’t have to worry about running out of googledrive space, but is there likely to be any problem I should look for? I’m guessing I’ll just have to manually delete the oldest sets as newer ones are generated.

    I hope I stated this clearly.

    The situation you’ve described could be a result of Google Drive policies that went into full effect a couple of years back.
    In summary, the policy prevents 3rd party apps like our plugin from having access to directories that were not created by it.

    As such, it’s possible that you’ve had the old UpdraftPlus folder for quite a while and even created it manually back then. That would explain why the plugin had to create a new UpdraftPlus directory, since the policy mentioned earlier would have prevented it from accessing/using the old directory.
    The fact that your other site also uploaded its latest backup into the new folder further confirms the above reasoning.

    As you’ve concluded, you can safely delete the old backups and/or the old UpdraftPlus directory after having enough backups in the new directory.
